The composition for Mirage was inspired by Umberto Eco’s novel The Island of the Day Before. The story follows Roberto della Griva, a castaway who discovers an apparently abandoned ship, strangely well stocked with food, water, livestock and freshly watered plants. In the distance lies an island that never seems to get any closer.
I was drawn to the eerie perfection of this deserted ship. Is it a trap, or is it cursed? It evokes the sirens of Greek mythology: something alluring yet ultimately dangerous, like a Venus flytrap.
