‘Crime in Ortigia’ is based on the transformation of Syracuse’s old town, Ortigia, from a rough and crime-ridden part of the city into a sanitised tourist hotspot filled with BNBs over the span of around thirty years. For me, the meatiness lies between the before and the after—the thirty years of small, incremental changes that become visible when the two extremes are placed next to each other.
